Troops & heroes
Four troop types, trained in four buildings, led by guards.
The four troop types

| Infantry | Barracks | Soaks up damage so your other troops can work. |
| Cavalry | Stables | Damage dealer. A strong first place for talent points if it is your stat focus. |

| Artillery | Artillery Foundry | Slow and situational. Lower priority early on. |
Upgrade the training buildings to unlock higher-level troops. Training costs food, silver, iron and wood.
Guards
Guards are the special characters who command your army in battle. You earn guard badges and recruitment banners mainly by defeating threats and red guard camps on the world map.

Talent points
- You earn talent points as your lord levels up. Spend them under the character icon.
- The war tab boosts combat, the economy tab boosts construction, and the balance tab boosts march speed and attack.
- Put combat points into the troop type that matches your stat focus first (see Guards, step 1). Plan before you spend, because points are hard to take back.
Forge and equipment
- Craft equipment at the Forge. Materials come from rewards, beasts, and the Black Market in the exchange shop.
- Forging is low-risk for Brown, Purple, Blue and Green troop gear: dismantling returns all of the materials. Gold and Red troop gear, and guard equipment you dismantle, return only part, so read Gear & gems before dismantling those.
- Abilities worth building toward include Distance Devastation I to III, Cavalry Cannons I to III, and March of Fury.

Airship
- Send your airship on marches and raids from the Airship Dock.
- Upgrading it raises estate power and gives lord XP. Enhancing abilities costs intensity gear from the exchange shop.
